Robert Venables, Cornet
Robert Alan Venables is one of the top freelance trumpet players in
Canada. As an orchestral musician he has held principal trumpet
positions with the Hamilton Philharmonic, Ontario
Place Pops, Orchestra London and Windsor Symphony. He has also
performed extensively with the National Ballet of Canada and the
Canadian Opera Company. His beautiful orchestral sound lends itself
perfectly to the score of Phantom of the Opera where he was principal
trumpet for ten years.
As a Salvation Army musician, Robert has been fortunate to be a
member of the Canadian Staff Band (Solo, Soprano Cornet, Soloist), The
Earlscourt Citadel Band (Principal Cornet, Soloist), and The North
York Temple Band (Principal Cornet). As a soloist and conductor he has
travelled to every major city in Canada as well as Pasadena, Santa Ana, Portland, New
York, Helsinki, Stockholm, Orebro, Oslo, Likoping, Boras, Goteberg and
Malmo. While very busy in the Army, Robert's career has flourished and
he can be heard regularly on radio and television.
His work with the Hannaford Street Silver Band (Soprano Cornet,
and more recently Principal Cornet) has
brought him in contact with many prominent conductors and musicians
such as Robert and Nicholas Childs, Ifor James, Edward Gregson,
Bramwell Tovey, James Watson, Philip Smith, James Curnow and Elmer
Iseler.
Robert, his wife Rhonda and their six children live in a country
home in Holland Landing and lead a busy life serving their Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ.
